Specialist research consultancy Sports Marketing Surveys is pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Anderman to expand its operations in the cycling industry
Marc brings a deep knowledge of SMS and research alongside rich experience across the sports and leisure sector. Marc first worked at SMS between 1997 and 2001, where he was heavily involved with the company’s first retail audits and was instrumental in the launch of SMS in Australia.
Marc then moved into the world of major events – which included planning and operating leading Ladies European Tour & European Tour events including the Solheim Cup, before starting his own sports consultancy to provide services to brands, sponsors, rights holders, media, agencies and players.
A keen road cyclist, Marc is looking forward to expanding SMS’ cycling presence, and making the company the go-to agency for research in cycling.
Marc commented “I’m really excited to be coming home to SMS. My first stint there forged a lifelong belief that good data can transform how businesses operate, something that I have applied throughout my career in the sports and leisure industry since. I can’t wait to speak to cycling brands, retailers, distributors, federations, agencies, events and service providers across the sector to discuss how robust, insightful data can help them capitalise on this moment of massive opportunity”.
Sports Marketing Surveys is an established and trusted presence in the cycling industry. It has worked with many of the major brands, including Specialized, Cannondale, and Giro, on consumer research since 2015. In 2018, SMS was awarded the contract to deliver the Bicycle Association’s Market Data Service (MDS), the most comprehensive audit of sales and stock data ever attempted in the UK cycling industry. To date the MDS has recorded over 700,000 individual products at model level and covers an estimated two thirds of the UK market. Interested parties can see more information on the Market Data Service or sign up here.
SMS is also a founder member of Cycling Industries Europe and active contributor to its market data expert group. Recently SMS has conducted the first two waves of CIE’s Covid-19 industry impact study.
Marc will build on these activities to ensure that research reaches every corner of the cycling industry, from traditional sectors such as road and mountain biking, to new and expanding categories including bikeshare, tourism, ITS and Cargo.
